I got the paint on the frame and the hood off as good as its going to get, so I decided to take a break from that and work on the engine. Mounted it to the tractor, wired it up, and adjusted the points, took a bit to get the pump primed but she fired right up. Runs great, and best of all no smoke or knock.
Of course the best part is that the engine and actuator were FREE. Aw ya.

Now ya got some power!!!JustinW.73 wrote: Today I went to a guys house with gary. He had a lot of different stuff (no wheel horses sadly) but hes a big international guy. He just finished restoring a 560 diesel tractor. But anyway, he said he has a few kohler's and he had a 16 hp one. Hmmmm...well he gave me the 16 hp kohler and an actuator to see if I can make an electric lift. He said he doesn't like kohlers and said he had a few more that I might get. That or it was just because I am younger and like the same stuff as he does.

Scott wrote: Nice!! Now you got a Raider 16! 48" deck will be no problem with that beast under the hood. Great score!!!
I've been thinking about that. Did wh make a raider 16? really I would need a no name 16. Did they have those.
Does anyone know what the biggest raider they made was (hp)?

I believe K301 was the largest Raider made. I personalty like the Raider name for a tractor! Terry could make you some custom decals to say Raider 16! I love my Kohlers! Easy to work on and proven performance in a small, strong, and reliable package. I cut grass for a season with my 74 C160 auto and loved the extra power and smoothness of the engine. Mine still has the balance gears in it and has 450 hours on it. runs better then any new tractor you could buy today for sure! It know has lawn duty at my fathers and I get a lot of stairs from his neighbors cutting the grass with such a old tractor. One asked me how long do you think it will last, My answer was "it's lasted 40 years so far, no reason it shouldn't last another 40! That's more then 5 times the life expectancy of your crapsman! "
Last year he asked me to take a look at the steering on his crapsman that was 3 years old. Stamped steel frame was all cracked at the steering gear and skipping teeth all the time. I showed the difference between his and mine and he was astonished. He know has a 95 520H with a 48" deck, Blower, and grader blade. He said it was cheaper then a new crapsman! I made another believer in old iron !

Oh ya. the only good thing about crapsman is you will have a good b&s engine when the frame folds in two.
